The Teen Commandments Review by Disparate Dan

The Teen Commandments was a summer long project designed as a response to Richard Milward's critically acclaimed play, 'Apples', by mima's voluntary youth group, The Modern Times.
Members of the group have a close affinity with the same region in which the play was set, our very own 'Boro. Part of the response was to produce artwork, costumes, photographs, films and material for the stage. The Teen Commandments was an incredibly brave undertaking, seeing as none of the participants had done any acting before. It was my first visit to the Northern Stage venue in Newcastle, so, after a delicious duck in hoisin sauce sandwich, washed down with my favourite Czech lager, my compatriots and I headed downstairs to Stage 3, a lovely intimate space with an informal seating arrangement.
The following short play involved planning for a night out in the 'boro (a serious business, I can tell you) and other dialogues worked around the 'Apples' theme, followed by a short film put together by members of the group. Judging by the laughter, it worked. A tremendous amount of creativity was achieved in a relatively short time frame. "What about the Hairy Lemon?"......you may well ask........The reality was........ it was ALL amazing, (obviously)....
